JACKIE
ANDERSON-SMITH
In 2018, Jackie was elected Circuit Clerk of the Tenth Judicial Circuit (Jefferson County, Birmingham Division - the largest court system in Alabama), officially taking office on January 15, 2019. Prior to her election as Circuit Clerk, she was the first and only African American elected to the Jefferson County Board of Education - elected to six consecutive terms for her seat on the five-member board. A fifth-generation educator, she taught in the Birmingham Public School system before moving to Jefferson County Government as a Principal Human Resources Planner.
While serving the Jefferson County Government, she has also earned eight four-year Masterâs Level Certificates (Alabama Association of School Board Academy) in addition to holding her Bachelorâs degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her pursuit of a Juris Doctorate degree (Miles College School of Law) was interrupted by a lengthy and strenuous bout with cancer. She proudly attributes her recovery and survival to her faith in God and the devoted care of family members.
Beyond her activities as Circuit Clerk, Jackie is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alamerica BancCorp (a holding company which owns Alamerica Bank) and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alamerica Bank. She holds membership in various educational and community groups, such as Consumer Financial Educational Foundation of America, YMBC Civic Club, Jefferson County Democrats, Downtown Democrats, United Peopleâs Campaign, and Jefferson County Citizens Coalition.
